Ka Ipu Hoʻokele Waʻa: Pō'ele Wai - Tomorrow, March 31 @ 2PM 

Pō'ele Wai : A weaver, Kunawai, navigates between survival and her connection to the ‘āina (land) while a mysterious rash grows on her body. She has visions of a mysterious creature lurking in the waterways as she tries to go about her daily routine and her work as a cleaner. Pō'ele Wai on March 31 and Indigenous Naʻau on April 9. Did you know that students graduating from any of the seven UH System community colleges with an AA degree or select AS degrees may be eligible for UH Auto Admit? This process offers a streamlined, automatic application pathway to UHM, UHWO, and UH Hilo. While it’s called “Auto Admit,” it is essentially a faster transfer application process,selection does not guarantee final admission to your chosen campus, and some majors may require an additional application. Deadline to accept is April 9, 2026. Please review the attached details for more information, or feel free to join Counselor On Duty: Monday–Sunday from 9:00 AM–1:00 PM for personalized support.

Ka Ipu Hoʻokele Waʻa is excited to share three upcoming events at Windward Community College, beginning with a film screening and filmmaker Q&A for Dear Aloha happening tomorrow, March 24 at TRiO SSS. Dear Aloha is a powerful short documentary that highlights diasporic Hawaiians living far from home and explores how aloha sustains our people through distance, loss, and longing, with support from PBS and Firelight Media. Replacement SNAP for Food Spoiled by Power Outage

 Aloha WCC Students,

 

The Hawaiʻi Department of Human Services (DHS) is accepting applications for replacement of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits following severe weather, flooding and power outages associated with the recent Kona Low weather event. This assistance is for current SNAP recipients who experienced food loss due to household misfortune, such as extended power outages or flooding.

 

The request must be submitted within 10 days of the incident.

 

SNAP replacement benefits allow eligible households to be reimbursed for food, purchased with SNAP benefits, that was destroyed. The replacement amount will be based on the value of food lost, not to exceed the total monthly SNAP benefit issued to the household.

 

An application form is available on the DHS website at https://humanservices.hawaii.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Application-for-Replacement-of-Food.pdf (PDF download)

 

Or instead of filling out the application, SNAP recipients may submit their own written statement reporting the food that needs to be replaced. In that case, the statement must include:

• The name of the SNAP participant
• An estimate of the value of food destroyed
• A description of what occurred and when
• Contact information for the participant

Application or written statements may be submitted to any DHS Processing Center statewide. Once received, submissions will be reviewed and validated. Approved applicants will receive replacement benefits following the review process.

UPDATED: All UH campuses statewide closed March 13, due to severe weather

 

Aloha UH students, faculty and staff,

 

UPDATE: Hawaiʻi Island campuses have now been added to Friday’s closure.

 

All University of Hawaiʻi campuses on Oʻahu, Kauaʻi, Maui County and Hawaiʻi Island will be closed on Friday, March 13, due to severe weather expected to impact the state, including heavy rain, flash flooding, severe thunderstorms and high winds. The Friday closure includes all scheduled classes and events, including the OUTRIGGER Invitational men’s volleyball tournament and a Rainbow Wahine softball game at UH Mānoa.

 

Gov. Josh Green announced today, Thursday, March 12, the statewide suspension of non-essential state services for Friday, March 13, following the emergency declaration issued on March 9. The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education also announced the closure of public schools statewide.

 

Saturday Outdoor Events — Canceled

 

As a proactive measure, all outdoor events scheduled at UH facilities on Oʻahu, Kauaʻi, Maui County and Hawaiʻi Island for Saturday, March 14, are also canceled. This includes the Kapiʻolani Community College Farmers Market, the Maui College Swap Meet and the UH Mānoa Rainbow Wahine softball game.

 

A decision will be made tomorrow on whether conditions warrant additional closures for Saturday, including Saturday classes and the OUTRIGGER Invitational men’s volleyball tournament.

 

UH Operations

• All UH campuses are closed.

• In-person and online classes for these campuses are canceled. Instructors will contact students directly regarding assignments or coursework.

• Employees critical to supporting health, safety and recovery efforts should check with their supervisors regarding whether they are required to report to work.

• Select key departments may be asked to assess conditions and assist as needed.

• All outdoor events scheduled for Saturday, March 14, are canceled.

 

Weather Conditions

• Heavy rain may lead to flash flooding, including overflowing streams, flooded roads and possible landslides.

• Strong winds are expected, with sustained winds around 40 mph and gusts potentially exceeding 50 mph.

• Thunderstorms may produce intense rainfall, damaging winds and lightning.

 

Residents are strongly encouraged to limit travel unless absolutely necessary to allow emergency and utility crews to respond to and recover from weather-related impacts.
