I am a TRiO tutor in Colorado. After taking a online communication and collaboration class, I created an online project. I created a Desire2Learn class called Trio workshop. Students logged on to a threaded discussion to share favorite study tips with each other. They shared everything from music, flashcards, a quiet study place, study groups and word games for memory. I then streamed my traditional workshop from the classroom onto the class website so students could participate even when not available at the appointed time. I think it was very effective and the students liked the convenience and the novelty of the venue. I will use this structure in the future. I will be doing a workshop on essay writing next semester.
