TRiO SSS Scoop

Aloha TRiO SSS,

We got the word that TRiO SSS will be cut by 5.2% or $19,189 for next year. We were also told to plan for another cut of at least 8%  if congress canʻt agree on a budget. The House is currently planning on cutting 18% or $66,424.86---at 18%, positions will be reduced or cut and tutoring will be drastically reduced. 18% is almost like TRiO SSS being closed one day a week!!!

Please help us fight for our funding!

Puʻu and WCCʻs representatives went to visit with Senator Hirono last week in Washington DC and she was impressed with last monthʻs email blitz as their office received over 500 emails concerning cuts for TRiO at WCC. She has asked for personal stories of students who succeeded because of TRiO so that when she fights for funding, she can talk about real students and their struggles. She asked if we could get the stories to her as soon as possible since Congress discusses Education Appropriations next week.

We need 100 TRiO SSS Success Stories by next Tuesday, April 9, 2013.

If you donʻt want your full name posted, let me know and weʻll just post your first name. Also please comment and share success stories that you like on your Facebook page and spread the word.

When Senator Hirono and her staff see our Facebook page, we want her to realize how many people support TRiO SSS and how many people answered the call for help in two weeks as well as give her choke TRiO SSS Success Stories.
