How has TRiO SSS helped you/what services have you used? Trio has helped me immensely with all aspects of academia. It has been the sole support behind my education and the ability to acquire it while trying to be a mother, student, and worker.

Personal Statement:
    My name is Ashley Shankles,
I’m a student at Windward Community College; gathering my baseline prerequisite  requirements for early childhood education  before attending UH of Manoa. I receive both financial and federal grant aid, which thankfully allowed me to gain assistance from TRIO. TRIO has been tremendously beneficial to my education, whether by allowing me to print off homework, get free tutoring, or eating some ono food. Their support from each individual has fostered my ability to WANT an education and strive to do better as a student. I, personally, never thought I would enter college to begin with. I was heavy in drugs, abusive relationships, and with the byproduct of becoming pregnant thereafter... I’m happy to announce I’ve been over two years clean and sober of illicit drugs, with a healthy beautiful daughter, and will be on honor roll with hopes to graduate early from WCC. However, without the help of TRIO, without the support system, I’m not sure how others may have the same success stories. I can’t count how many times I’ve received individual help from Roy Inouye whether with family, school, etc. Or Russell with help from math nevertheless Ruby with always having the right thing to say to ensure that I would never turn back to an unhealthy lifestyle and with all of their work showing that I don’t need to blame my past or who I was for failure, but to pick up the pieces learn from them what I could and apply that knowledge in the future. With your help, maybe someone else could gain the courage, endurance, and mindset to accomplish what I’ve worked so hard for. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
My best regards,

Ashley Shankles
