Aloha e my name is Nolan Brown Jr. I am a third year sophmore here at
windward community college. I have been going to WCC for three years now. In
those three years I have graduated with four certificates in Agriculture. It
may seem as if things are great but it wasn’t always that way. I grew up in a
very functional family, went to numerous private elementary and high schools,
but along the way I have made very bad decisions in life. I began abusing
alcohol and drugs from intermediate days. Since then I have been incarcerated
put in different substance abuse treatments. I, now live clean and sober with
the help of Trio (the student support services) I wound not been able to find
the support I needed to strive towards a new life or even stay alive.. Trio has
given me all the tools to become successful and strive towards goals that I
would have never imagined in my addiction. I truly believe that by making these
cutbacks would be a catastrophic mistake for myself and many others try to
become a functional member in society. Windward community college is a very
supportive environment where individuals can learn in a setting that encourages
the disadvantaged to goal set and become anything they want to become.
Trio
has been the most supportive setting I have encountered here at this campus.
From what I hear there is no other that can compare to the services anywhere
else. I have gotten peer mentoring, financial aid counseling, free computer
access and printing, we were fed daily, i could continue on and on. I the staff
here is awesome. Roy Inouye is a friend of mine. He has spent countless hour
aiding in everyone’s success where you had a problem with class schedules, to
registering for classes best suited for our learning skills, to personal issues
someone might have. Roy spends more hours here working with individuals than he
does at home. I see his dedication to this program. I hope you are able to see
that this program works and I encourage you to continue your support in this
program so that Trio is able to continue helping enrich the live of the future.
Much
Aloha Nolan Brown Jr. (A firm believer of the Trio program.)
