Position Title: STAR Student Ambassador Pay Rate: $9.00
Qualifications: Available for approximately 20 hours a week of training during academic breaks, plus work activities prior to the programs and during the scheduled programs. Please note: If hired, attendance is mandatory at all training sessions. Able to adhere to scheduled work hours. Be available and accessible to new students and providing daily personal contact with students assigned to your team throughout peak periods. Good academic and disciplinary standing. Understand and believe in the purpose of the orientation and student success programs Ability to communicate well with students, parents, faculty, and administration. Exhibit responsibility, positive attitude, confidence, flexibility, team orientation, high energy level, and strong communication skills. Ability to act as a leader for team of as large as 50 new students. Ability to facilitate programs, meetings, and small group discussions revolving around educational and social issues. Ability to learn and explain academic and co-curricular opportunities and procedures in a timely manner. Ability to work independently. Are reliable, punctual, responsible, self-motivated, enthusiastic, flexible, sensitive, resourceful, creative, and team-oriented leaders. Desirable: Direct experience with the Windward Community College Student experience.
Duties: The minimum expectations/responsibilities of Student Ambassadors include: Attend and actively participate in training and development programs. Facilitate small group discussions with new students independently. Instruct students in using the STAR for Students on-line system, and demonstrate the registration process. Assist with the organization and implementation of orientation, student success programs and general student services. Serve as role model and mentor for students. Aid new students in their transition to Windward CC. Provide new students and their families with information on campus services, activities, and facilities. Encourage students to fully participate in the college environment. Lead campus tours. Recommend and provide feedback on improving STAR Ambassador program. Introduce & assist presenters, speakers, and university officials at various functions, such as Frosh Camp. Expose new students to the broad range of educational opportunities offered Integrate new students into a successful student life experience. Additional responsibilities as assigned.
