Kacie Aurio's TRiO SSS Success Story

Aloha, I am writing in regards to Our Successful Trio Program at Windward Community College.  Personally, I have seen and experienced such Success as a College student. I have been embraced by the warm and caring staff, eagerly available to help me if I have any questions.  I have numerous opportunities to work on my homework, oral presentations, having individual and group tutoring, upcoming quizzes and exams as well as applying for all the educational programs available.  My first impression of the Trio Program is that I felt the warmth and Spirit of Aloha from Roy and Pu’u, as they gave me an orientation of the Trio Program. I feel it necessary for the Trio program to remain the same as of now, to be open for all days (Monday-Friday from 7am-7pm). This need is for my fellow students and I to continue to gain the strength and knowledge to grow mentally and spiritually.

In the beginning of my Spring semester 2013, I tried to study in the library and by myself in the Math lounge. My grades continued to be averaging at a C range. I heard about the Trio Program from my friend and decided to enroll and have significantly gained more knowledge and wisdom from such a healthy, thriving program. I am now averaging a high B to a A range because of the necessary help from the Trio Program. I am encouraged by how well the Trio Staff work together and gain opportunities to help our students apply for financial aid. It helped to have the connections such as bringing a Kamehmeha Schools Staff member to come to the Trio Program to help us enroll in the Ho’oulu Data Center and look over our Personnal Statements. This is just one of the many wonderful opportunities the Trio Program does for us. Overall, the Trio Program is helping each student gain control of our education necessary to create healthy individuals, healthy jobs, healthy families and most of all a thriving and healthy community!

Thank you for listening and taking time to read this letter!

Mahalo Nui Loa (Thank you very much),
Kacie Aurio
Windward Community College Hawaiian Studies Student
