Marleen and John Keanu's TRiO SSS Success Story

My story is no different from most of the stories shared in support of TRIO SSS. What great thing hasn’t been addressed concerning TRIO SSS, which sits in our beautiful college.  Individual personal stories share common concerns and evidence in support of TRIO SSS.  What I have read from what has been shared would be TRIO is the Piko or the focal point of campus.  Many memories were developed in TRIO, placements, and adjustment into college, life experience, organizational skills learned, financial needs and grants, fellowship.  With all of these great expectations, knowledge was learned and created student success (600 students).

My son and I are products of this great success. Our story is losing my job after 11 years, and unsure of what my future held. I was 53 year old and scared and angry.  My son became the reason for living, and after praying for a blessing, he became my blessing, I wasn’t going to fail.  I could only think of my son going to college and I was going to do everything in my power, not fail his and my dream.  I did the unthinkable, we are both enrolled to college.  In pursuit of happiness our majors are in Hawaiian studies and Psychology

I was introduced to the wonderful TRIO staff who shared their gift of love and Aloha, the feeling of warmth of being at home. (Mahalo Roy and Pu’u)  Its ohana setting offers students engaging to help each other or best described “ It take a village to raise a child ” with all report to the village each day. They have influenced our life with many teaching resources, and understood by all who (dare nah!) walk in the doors, education is “celebrated and expected”.  It has become the most irreplaceable program on campus.  I invited you to come and experience it for yourself, to feels it’s mana and `ike.  We Hawaiian have suffered enough of the hands of the others, be our voice to fight for what we believe in education.

Here's our story can you leave out our last names, and correct my english grammar, and spelling. Your doing a great job!!!!!

Mahalo.
