I can not begin to say just how truly
grateful I am for the TRIO SSS program at WCC. When it comes down to it, I
would not be on my way to becoming an RN if it wasn't for the support I
received from Trio and the staff at WCC.
It seems just a few years ago I was at the top of my game. I was bar-tending and waitressing in Vegas. I was married, making amazing money, saving to buy a house, and just enjoying life. In the blink of an eye, my entire life changed. I got a divorced, became a single mom, and made the decision to move home to raise my children and get an education. I had to eat a huge piece of humble pie, moved home with my parents, got on welfare, took out student loans (still on student loans at HPU), and eventually sold my truck. All the privileges I had before are put on hold temporarily so I can make a better and more secure future for myself and my children.
My self-esteem took a dive and Trio helped me gain my confidence back, by helping me with internet access, printing, affordable/free food, and an amazing and supportive tutoring team and staff. The environment at Trio was always encouraging and we all worked to help one another in areas of weakness. Till today I do not have a study group quite like the one I had back when I was apart of Trio WCC. I miss Trio and the friends/study buddies I met while I was there, forever impacting the positive movement in my life.
I will never forget Trio and what the people there did for me and my family. Anytime I meet a student that attends WCC, I tell them about Trio and what they did for me. I always ask WCC students, "Are you apart of Trio?" and if they say, "NO", I tell them they have to check it out and I tell them all the great things they offer and how they helped obtain my Liberal Arts degree and how I am now on my way to earning my BSN, and becoming a registered nurse.
Forever grateful,
Tatiana Kananionapuaaloha Gonsalves
