Aloha pumehana
kakou a pau loa. My name is Tycine Nazare and this is my second semester
attending Windward Community College. I honestly never thought that I would
back attending school again. In 2006 I attended Remington College for massage
therapy. I just barely made it to through towards graduating and obtaining my
license in massage therapy. I struggled and broke down a good amount of times,
but I never gave up. After I graduated from Remington I honestly thought to
myself “I’m never going back to school again!”. As the years went by I saw and
watched my love ones and good friends going through the struggles of drug abuse.
My heart ached from watching such unfortunate events take place due to such
substances. It was then I decided I wanted to help them. Yes I know I’m already
helping people through their physical pain but what about the one’s who need
that emotional support or just someone there that won’t judge them. Someone
that they can talk to and seek guidence from. In the Fall of 2012 I enrolled
into Windward Community College in the intent of some day obtaining my masters
in Psychology. Scared and not knowing what to expect I charged into it head
on.I knew through my experience at Remington that it wouldn’t be easy and that
the challenge would be a lot harder. I often thought to myself that it just
might be too hard or that I was not smart enough to complete this task that I
had set for myself. Before starting my first semester I attended a FROSH camp
that was setup to help freshmans who were about to start school in the fall. It
was there that I learned of TRiO SSS and what they had to offer. Immediantly
the very first day I started school I became a active participent in TRiO. I
learned not only do they offer free tutoring, printing, and computer use put
they also offer GREAT and POSITIVE motivation something that I have found only
in my family and close friends. The staff of TRiO plays a big role in my
accomplishments in my first semester and my on going second semester. They have
provided me with the tools I needed such as computer use, printing and a great
tutor so there were no exuses for me not to succeed in school. I was able to
obtain an A grade in psychology 100 also an A grade in ‘Olelo Hawai’i 101. As my first semester started to come to an
end I was beyond grateful for all the help and support that TRiO had given to
me that I felt I wanted to give back. In Spring 2012 as my second semester
started I became a tutor myself; tutoring in Psy 100 the survey of psychology. I
believe that TRiO is a very big blessing in not only my academic career but
also my life. I am forever GRATEFUL and BLESSED to be a part of such a wonderful
Ohana that we call TRiO. Mahalo no e TRiO.. ‘O Iesu pu.. Tycine Nazare..
